Dog Friendly Beaches

The following is a list of pet friendly-beaches on Long Island:

 

Camp Hero State Park

Bring your pup with you for a  day of fun at Camp Hero State Park! With a diverse landscape, beachfront views along the Atlantic Ocean, bluffs, wooded areas and more, it will be a lovely experience had by all. Dogs must be kept on a leash and that leash can be no more than 6 feet long.

Feel free to bring your four-legged friend along with you to stroll the seashore after Labor Day. Between March 15th & Labor Day, dogs are restricted on federally-owned ocean beaches in order to protect threatened and endangered species. Pets are not permitted without a leash and they are not allowed at Robert Moses State Park, sections of Smith Point County Park, or on some of the community beaches on Fire Island. Montauk Point State Park

Dogs are allowed at Montauk Point State park but only in certain park areas and never in buildings, camping grounds, walkways, picnic or bathing areas. Dogs must be on a leash no more than 6 feet long.

 

Nickerson Beach Park

Although not allow on the beach itself, Nickerson Beach Park does have a dog run that is located across from Fun Zone. The run has two separate areas, one for small dogs, and one for big dogs.

 

Shadmoor State Park

Make your way out to "The End" of the Island with your dog in tow and enjoy strolling the over 2,000 feet of ocean beach. There are also hiking trails featuring scenic shoreline views. Dogs must be kept on a leash that is no more than 6 feet long.
 

Southampton Parks & Beaches

Dogs are permitted on Southampton parks, beaches and trails but only between October 1st & April 1st. Dogs must always be leashed and under supervision. Dogs must be cleaned up after and are not allowed within 50 feet of any protected animal areas.

 

Sunken Meadow State Park

While pets are not allowed in the devolped areas of Sunken Meadow State Park, like in the buildings, bathing or picnic areas, there is a designated dog walk trail and dogs are welcome to use the Old Dock Road (off of 25A East) entrance.

Gardiner County Park

Both human and leashed canine alike will enjoy exploring the various hiking trails at Gardiner County Park and walking down to the bay. Dogs must be leashed. 
 
Heckscher State Park

Dogs are allowed at Heckscher State Park in undeveloped areas only and they must be on a leash no more than 6 feet long. Dogs are not permitted in buildings, walkways or picnic and bathing areas.
 

Hither Hills State Park

Dogs are permitted in certain areas of Hither Hills State Park. Those areas are East of Napeague Harbor, north of Montauk Parkway and and west of overlook parking.  Dogs must be on a leash no more than 6 feet long and they are not allowed in buildings, walkways, picnic or bathing areas.
