Join Forces to End Animal Cruelty
Stop Puppy Mills
What you need to know about where the puppies sold at
stores come from...
Kent Animal Shelter has joined forces with an East Coast coalition of shelters and humane
organizations to rescue and adopt out dogs from America's puppy mills. Watch this short video to find
out why...
What you can do to help
Never buy a dog from a puppy store. There's a good chance the puppy will suffer from
medical ailments due to the terrible conditions in puppy mills, and you'll be supporting
inhumane practices.
Instead, adopt from a shelter. Check our Adoptions page for a current list of animals
looking for forever homes. You might find just the dog you were looking for while saving a
life!
Spread the word about puppy stores and the real story about where those puppies come
from and the conditions those animals are bred in.
Thank you!i
What is a puppy mill?
Puppy mills are mass breeding operations that solely exist to supply public demand for
designer dogs, many of whom eventually end up in animal shelters anyway. The
operation is totally based on profit, there isn’t any concern for the welfare of the animals
in the mills, they receive no socialization, inadequate food, little or no veterinary care, are
piled on top of each other in cages for their entire lives, and are bred over and over
again. They live in cramped, dirty environments.
There are over 3500 pet shops in this country that are stocked with over 500.000 mill
puppies every year to meet consumer demand. That cute little designer dog you see in
your local pet shop came from a mill where its parents are suffering 24/7.
Kent Animal Shelter is participating in a coalition of
rescues, shelters and humane organizations to put
an end to puppy mills. Pictured here is a transfer of
rescued dogs from midwest puppy mills to New York
metro region shelters.

horrors of puppy mills and adopted out to loving
forever homes...
