TAX-WISE
WAYS TO SUPPORT KENT ANIMAL SHELTER
LEARN HOW TO INCREASE NET INCOME
AND
HAVE MORE MONEY FOR RETIREMENT
BEQUESTS AND GIFTS
Many
individuals would like to provide important financial support
for the Kent Animal Shelter, but may feel constrained by it financial
and personal obligations. Fortunately, it's possible to support
the Shelter without jeopardizing or neglecting the needs of your
family. In fact, there are a number of ways to give which can
actually enhance financial security for you and your family.
Among the ways to make your gift-some of which offer significant
tax-saving opportunities-are these twelve methods:
Cash or checks-
Because these gifts provide funds that can
be put to immediate use by the shelter, they are important to
help meet current expenses, especially when unanticipated needs
arise. Cash gifts are tax deductible up to 50% of your adjusted
gross income, and unused deductions may be carried forward for
as many as five tax years.
Securities-
Gifts of appreciated securities that you have
owned for more than a year can be very advantageous. Capital gains
taxes are completely avoided and a tax deduction can be taken
for the full market value rather than just your original cost.
Real estate- Real property may be contributed in various
tax advantaged ways.
Life Insurance- Gifts of existing policies you no longer
need make excellent gifts. For existing policies, you can generally deduct the entire replacement
value of the policy, plus any premium payments that you subsequently
make. If the policy isn't completely paid up, it's approximate
cash value plus future premium payments are usually fully deductible.
Charitable
Remainder Unitrust-
You, the donor, create a trust and fund
it with property of your choice-cash, stock, artwork, etc. You specify what percentage
of the trust assets you wish to receive as annual income, when
you will begin to receive the income, and for how long. You will
receive an immediate charitable income tax deduction, based upon
the value of the property given to the trust and upon the income
stream that you have specified. And you provide a means whereby
the value of the asset initially placed in the trust will pass
to your children free of both income and estate tax when you and
your spouse have died.
SUPPORT
THE KENT ANIMAL SHELTER FOR GENERATIONS TO COME THROUGH YOUR WILL.
One
of the easiest and most thoughtful ways to provide continued support
for the shelter is through a charitable bequest. By joining with
others in making bequests, you can enable the Kent Animal Shelter
to continue caring for helpless, abused and abandoned animals.
You
can achieve this by making
Outright bequest,
of a specified percentage of the
estate or a specified sum.
Residuary bequest
may simply state that the shelter
is to receive the remainder of your estate after all specific
bequests have been made.
Contingent bequest
may be used to provide for the
distribution of property in the event that one of more of your
named beneficiaries does not survive you.
A
Life income bequest can provide the security of a
lifetime income for your loved ones while assuring an eventual
gift to the Kent Animal Shelter.
Careful
planning may enable you to preserve more of your estate for your
heirs, and avoid the necessity of selling off assets to pay taxes.
We
have information and materials available upon request that may
be helpful to you in planning your estate. We can also provide
you with suggested wording if you wish to make a bequest. To receive
additional information call Pam Green at 631-727-5731 at your
convenience.
The
Kent Animal Shelter is a 501 © 3 non-profit charitable organization
dedicated to the welfare of homeless animals.
SPONSOR-A-PET
You
may not be able to open your home to a pet at this time but we
know your heart is in the right place. Many of our animals spend
a number of months in our care. You can help us provide the care
our animals need by becoming a sponsor. By viewing our Virtual
Adoption Center , you are able to choose the pet you would like
to sponsor. As a pet sponsor, you will receive a biography and
a photo of your foster pet. You will also receive periodic updates
on your pet's progress. When your foster pet has been placed in
a new home, you will be notified of the good news. To be a SPONSOR,
you send a monthly contribution of $20 dollars which helps us
provide food, medical care, and shelter to a homeless animal.
You may elect to be a co-sponsor of a pet and share the care of
your foster dog or cat. A cosponsor contribution is $ 25.00
a month. Please call the shelter at 631-727-5731 if you would
like to sponsor a pet. You can also email us at jleibold@kentanimalshelter.com
for more information on becoming a sponsor.
TREE
OF LIFE
The Tree of Life is a commemorative tablet honoring our most valued
friends and supporters. If you would like your name, the name
of a pet or an honorary memorial leaf inscribed on the tree please
fill out the information below exactly the way you would like
the engraving to appear. A contribution of $100.00 is suggested
which will help us to continue our work. The tree has been dedicated
in the adoption center lobby.
